Dec I50 - Meizu M3 Clone

Cloning a clone is what the Dec has done with the I50. A clone of the Chinese player Meizu M3 which is pretty much a Nano Clone. The I50 rumored specs are RK2608A chipset, with AVI, WMA, APE, FLAC and AVI file support, it also uses a tactile strip for navigation, a 1.46 TFT LCD screen, all in a thin 7mm body.

Unconfirmed reports Meizu booth shutdown because of Sisvel
It seemed weird that Meizu would be shutdown because of cloning the iPhone. And now reports are that the real reason the Meizu booth was shutdown is because of an issue with Sisvel over the MP3 codec license. This isn't the first time that Sisvel went against Meizu. Sisvel blocked Meizu from selling the original Meizu M6 outside of China because of it. Meizu eventually found Dane-Elec who took responsibility over any licensing fees.
Sandisk also has had a run in with Sisvel, having their booth shutdown at IFA.

Meizu M8 not likely on Verizon
PMPToday states that the M8 will be available on Verizon. Which is not the case since the M8 will be a GSM phone. Most likely they got confused by SCDMA to be confused with Verizon's CDMA. SCDMA appears to be a Chinese 3G standard. Here is the wikipedia explanation:
not to be confused with CDMA
TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) is a 3G mobile telecommunications standard, being pursued in the People's Republic of China by the Chinese Academy of Telecommunications Technology (CATT), Datang and Siemens AG, in an attempt not to be "dependent on Western technologyWikipedia
not to be confused with CDMA
CDMA2000 is a hybrid 2.5G / 3G protocol of mobile telecommunications standards that use CDMA, a multiple access scheme for digital radio, to send voice, data, and signalling data (such as a dialed telephone number) between mobile phones and cell sites. CDMA2000 is considered a 2.5G protocol in 1xRTT and a 3G protocol in EVDO.

Google phone details
Here's are some new rumors cooking up about the gPhone from TrenchMice.com
via TrenchMice
This comes from a highly reliable source:
1. The Google phone will be announced sometime between 9/27 and 10/5.
2. Google has formed a consortium of about 30 companies to create it. The consortium includes chip makers, OEM manufacturers, software providers, and carriers. The phone will be open source, using the Apache license. The phone will in fact not be a product -- it's really a reference design.
3. This reference design will be an unlocked, neutral environment. It'll be GSM everywhere except Japan, where it will be TDMA.
4. While the phone is open, the secret sauce is a heavy server-side component that will be handled solely by Google's data centers. So the phone will be open while some services rely on the server side, which you'll pay for.
5. One of Nokia, Samsung, or Moto is in the consortium. The tipster didn't know which one.
6. The reference phone will role out simultaneously in the US, Japan, China, and Europe. They have a carrier ready to go in every region.
7. The thrust of the reference phone is that it is "the anti-iPhone". It will be an inexpensive, open design, vs. Apple's closed, expensive design."

Digitimes: GooglePhone an almost definate

Microsoft to acquire Rim?

Rumor has it that Microsoft might acquire Rim. This just doesn't seem likely because of the Blackberry vs Windows Mobiles. The reason stated is because of Google's interest in the mobile space and possible gPhone.

CrunchGear reports Googlephone is real

Crunchgear has posted some new news that insiders claim not only the existence of a googlephone but its release Q1 2008.
Here are some info they got
Google is currently assessing over twenty HTC models and refining its final handset design and will create a special version of Google Maps, compatible with built-in GPS, and compatibility with Gmail and the calendar app. There is also some talk that Samsung will be releasing gPhone handsets as well, but that has not been confirmed.
One extremely interesting point? Google Talk will become a part of the phone, adding VoIP capability to the hardware.
The software should be like Yahoo! Mobile, a similar application that leverage’s Yahoo’s mail and search solutions for handsets. However, that Google is going ahead with an actual hardware launch and may be using its own OS — the tipster mentioned WinMo 6 but there is a better chance that they will be using a Linux-based OS — and hardware is quite a shocker. More as this develops.

Google Phone Prototypes to Manufacturers; To Offer Free Service?

Google apparently has an issue with charging consumers money. Let’s face it, the world’s largest search giant isn’t a search engine, it’s an ad machine. A perfectly targeted one, at that: you tell it what you’re looking for, it offers up commercial options for your perusal. It’s a great idea.
And the word is coming down the grapevine that if or when the Google Phone launches, that the model will be similar. You’ll get free service on your handset, though it’ll be tinged with Google ads.

Linux to power Google GPhone?
Google's first mobile phone will run a Linux operating system on a Texas Instruments "Edge" chipset, and will likely ship to T-Mobile and Orange customers in the Spring of 2008, according to unconfirmed reports. "GPhone" call minutes and text messages reportedly will be funded by mobile advertising.
News of the so-called "GPhone" or "G-Phone" broke quietly about two weeks ago in the island nation of Singapore, where Jennifer Tan of Reuters subsidiary Anian Research filed a report on July 12.
Tan cited "industry sources," "U.S. sources," and "manufacturing and component supply chain sources" in backing her assertion that after year-long delays finding a manufacturer, Google contracted Taiwan-based smartphone maker High Tech Computer (HTC) to design its phone hardware. HTC is best-known for its Windows Mobile smartphones, however, and Tan offered no conjecture about who might supply the phone's Linux-based operating system.
Additional details reported by Tan include:
* The G-Phone will have a large color screen with a predictive Qwerty keypad to simplify Google searching
* A follow-up 3G-capable model (Edge is considered "2.75G") will use a Qualcomm chipset
* Scheduled for production in Q1 of 2006, the Google phone will hit retail shelves next spring
* Call minutes and text messages are to be funded by "mobile advertising"
* Google originally hoped to launch a phone this year, but was delayed by "difficulties in nailing down a deal with a handset maker"
* T-Mobile will carrier the phone in the U.S., along with (possibly) Orange in other markets

The gPhone: Exclusively From Sprint Nextel And Google?
Google announced an alliance with Sprint Nextel that will see the two companies working together to bring Google’s search, digital mapping technologies and GTalk chat service to Sprint’s WiMax network, which, once it’s completed, will theoretically allow wireless Web access at speeds and prices similar to cable connections.
The deal follows the announcement of Sprint’s plans to collaborate with Clearwire to build out a nationwide WiMax network by the end of 2008. It also follows Google’s conditional pledge to drop at least $4.6 billion on the Federal Communications Commission’s auction of the 700-megahertz spectrum, which has long been said to be the future of WiMax (with fewer line-of-sight issues and wider coverage and better building penetration).
Coincidence? Or part of a master plan in which Google wins the 700-megahertz spectrum, uses it to help complete the Sprint/Clearwire nationwide WiMax network effort and then announces Rubin’s Google Phone–upending the telco-cable duopoly in the process?
